Your New Jersey Devils posted an impressive 48-27-7 record en route to a trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 13th consecutive season and the 20th of the last 22 seasons. Led by new head coach Jacques Lemaire, the Devils could not get out of the first round against the Philadelphia Flyers who eliminated the Devils four games to one.
This off season, the team signed six free agents; D Anton Volchenkov, D Henrik Tallinder, G. Johan Hedberg, C Jason Arnott, RW Darcy Zajac and RW Matt Lombardi. In the draft, the franchise selected D Jon Merrill (38th overall selection), G Scott Wedgewood (84th overall selection), D Joe Faust (114th overall selection), G Maxime Clermont (174th overall selection) and RW Mauro Jorg (204th overall selection).
The team is trying to work their salary cap situation as they try and resign Llya Kovalchuk. In doing so, the team may have to depart with a player or two in the process.
The team opens its preseason schedule in Philadelphia on Sept. 21st and the regular season begins at home against Dallas on October 8th.
